SS-01 Instrumentation for Health

Organizer: José Paulo Santos (PhD Programme in Biomedical Engineering)

Abstract: The Instrumentation for Health establishes a framework for cross-disciplinary activities that integrate the engineering sciences with the biomedical sciences and clinical practice, with the shared goal of improving the human health knowledge and conditions.

SS-02 Digital Technologies for Additive Manufacturing

Organizers: Helena Carvalho, João Oliveira (PhD Programme in Industrial Engineering)

Abstract: Within the context Industry 4.0, Additive Manufacturing technologies have emerged as a key enabling transformational process. Currently, fusion-based additive manufacturing technologies are used in a wide range of applications spanning from the aerospace, biomedical and civil engineering industries. The recently observed developments in this area require a multidisciplinary approach to fully comprehend, explore and further expand the enormous capabilities of such manufacturing route.

This Special Session focus on Digital Technologies as important enablers of Additive Manufacturing and 3D Printing and covers a wide range of topics, such as, but not limit to:

  • Process Variants, Parameters and Optimization;

  • Material Characterization and Modeling;

  • Multiscale AM;

  • Predictive Modelling;

  • Quality Assurance and Consistency;

  • AM focused Topology Optimization and Bionic Structures;

  • On-Demand Fabrication;

  • Digital Supply Chains;

  • Sustainability and AM;

  • Non-Destructive Testing (NDT);

  • In-line Process Monitoring.
