The role of innovation in corporate development

Délio Almeida (Critical Software, Portugal)

Délio Almeida joined Critical Software in 1999, first as a trainee and afterwards as Technical and Project Manager in the Telecommunications domain. In 2005 he was nominated Head of the Networking and Telecommunications Unit and later in 2006 joined the Project Management Office (PMO) Department as Program Manager. Since then he has been actively managing large, complex and multi-site projects in the Aerospace, Aeronautics, Transportation and Defense sectors. Délio has participated and managed -back since 2004- several national/international R&D projects and currently coordinates an European FP7 R&D project called EMMON. Délio Almeida has a degree in Computer Science by the University of Coimbra, Post-graduate studies in Project Management by Instituto Superior Bissaya Barreto in Coimbra and is a certified Project Management Professional practitioner by the Project Management Institute (PMI).

Abstract The presentation focuses on the role of innovation in corporate development and how it is specifically addressed in Critical Software SA, a mature IT mission and business solutions provider based in Portugal. First a corporate overview is described to provide insight and context to the corporate environment, its challenges and constraints, then followed by a presentation on how Innovation and R&D is addressed at corporate level (together with its main results).
